Coal tit coincidence

Yesterday I did my last visits for the British Trust for Ornithology’s winter bird survey, covering both my sites, near Stokenchurch and Prestwood in the Chilterns.  It was not good weather but I have to do the surveys by the end of March and my free time is running out.

The best moment was on my Stokenchurch walk, when I came out of North Remletts Wood and walked east along the side of the meadow.  Once again there was a coal tit in the hedge, just as there was on my second visit, on 5 January.  I heard it before I saw it, a jolly little bird.  There could have been more than one, I hope so.

I shall be returning there for the breeding-bird survey next month and again in June, so I hope I shall find that the coal tits are breeding.
