An infallible hiccup-cure

This is my one thousandth blog. To mark the occasion I thought I would write about something different which you might find helpful—an effective cure for hiccups.

I was prompted by this article in the Guardian on 18 June, about a device to cure hiccups which will cost you at least £10. My cure costs nothing. I am indebted to my biology teacher at Benenden, Mrs Oliver (affectionately known as Mollie Ollie), 50 years ago.

Fill your mouth with water, block both ears firmly with your hands, and swallow the water a little at a time with big gulps. You may need to fill your mouth again, but two mouthfuls and about ten swallows should do it. I have never known it fail—it is apparently to do with pressure.

Thank you Mollie Ollie.
