It is ironic that The Archers, which has steadfastly avoided mentioning coronavirus, has been hit by it. The Friday edition has been scrapped, presumably to extend the life of the episodes which have already been recorded.
Of course it’s a sensible decision—as was the apparent decision to make Ambridge (and Borsetshire) virus-free. It’s not unknown for The Archers to be rather behind: there was no mention of leaving the EU until nine months after the referendum. But I suspect we won’t be hearing of the virus and I believe that is a good thing.
It provides a 15-minute escape from the real world—but on five days a week rather than six.
PS: A few days after writing this I was sorry to learn here that the virus will reach Ambridge in May.
